stress

Stress is the roommate you didn’t ask for,
the one who moved in without knocking
and left their crap all over the place.

It sleeps on your couch,
eats your snacks,
and mutters what if, what if, what if
under its breath
while you’re trying to concentrate.

You think you’re in control.
You’ve got your to-do lists,
your routines,
your color-coded calendar.
But stress doesn’t care about your plans.
It shows up in the silence,
the in-between moments,
and reminds you that control is an illusion.

Some say stress is the enemy.
But let’s be real—it’s not going anywhere.
Stress is part of the deal.
Life’s shadow that follows you,
grows bigger in the late afternoon
and shrinks when you stop chasing it.

Stress isn’t always bad.
It’s the spark that lights the fire.
It’s the weight that builds muscle.
It’s the deadline that makes you finally
get your shit together.

But left unchecked,
stress becomes a squatter.
It takes over.
Turns your home into chaos.
Your mind into a warzone.

You can’t fight it.
You can’t evict it.
But you can learn to live with it.
Offer it a seat at the table,
but don’t let it eat your food.

Stress loves noise.
So give it silence.
Stress thrives on chaos.
So give it rhythm.
Stress feeds on avoidance.
So turn toward it,
and say, “What do you need?”

Stress isn’t the enemy.
It’s the signal.
The flare that says something’s off.
It doesn’t need to be destroyed,
just understood.

So let it sit.
Let it whisper.
But don’t let it take over.

You’ve got the keys.
Stress doesn’t own this house.
You do.

Daily Writing Tip

Personify the Abstract

  • Personify the Concept: Turn abstract ideas into relatable characters or entities to make them more engaging and memorable.

  • Use Relatable Scenarios: Ground the personification in everyday life (e.g., stress as a messy roommate) to create connection and emotional resonance.

  • Deliver Insight Through Storytelling: Weave actionable lessons into the narrative so the reader gains understanding and practical takeaways.
