Orange
Orange is a color, a fruit, a delight.
It’s loud in the morning, it’s bold in the night.
It’s round, and it’s zesty; it squirts in your eye.
It’s a sunrise, a sunset, a pumpkin-shaped pie.
You can’t rhyme it; don’t try it; it’s stubborn and smug.
Say “blorange” or “door hinge,” and you’ll just get a shrug.
But oh, what a color! It shouts, “Here I am!”
It’s a carrot! A goldfish! A sweet candied yam!
It’s traffic cone caution, it’s autumnal cheer.
It’s bright and it’s daring, it says, “Look over here!”
But orange isn’t subtle; it’s not for the meek.
It’s wild, it’s spicy, it’s positively chic.
It’s the peel on your floor, a banana’s best foe.
It’s the juice you spill and the seeds that won’t go.
You can juggle an orange, or toss it, or peel it.
You can squeeze out its juice or just roll it and feel it.
But if you think orange is only a fruit,
You’ve missed all its glory, its flair, and its roots.
It’s the boldest of colors, the showiest hue.
It’s a flamingo on fire! It’s a creamsicle, too!
So here’s to the orange—go grab one today.
Give it a toss and shout, “Hip, hip, hooray!”
