breaker

She wasn’t there for forever.
She never promised that.
She was there for the high,
for the hit,
for the spark that burned too fast.
She tilted her head when she laughed
like she knew something you didn’t.
And maybe she did.
Maybe she always did.
Her words didn’t stay long,
but they stayed deep.
A look, a touch,
just enough to pull you in,
never enough to hold you there.
She wasn’t the kind you built a life with.
She was the kind who walked in,
lit the match,
and left before the flames took hold.
You knew better.
You always knew better.
But she wasn’t about better.
She wasn’t there to fix anything.
She wasn’t there to stay.
She was the breaker.

Daily Writing Tip
Leave Space for the Reader
Show, Don’t Explain: Let actions and details do the heavy lifting. A tilted head, a fleeting touch—these say more than a paragraph of explanation.
Keep It Sharp: Use vivid, intentional language that sticks. “The high, the hit” paints a picture with punch, without wasting words.
Let the Reader Fill the Gaps: Don’t spell everything out. Leave enough room for interpretation—what’s unsaid is as powerful as what’s written.
Good writing doesn’t hand the reader the story. It hands them a match.
